Sparta Soccer Club Travel Tryouts for the 2010/11 Year

Welcome to the Sparta Soccer Club, (SSC) Travel Team Tryouts. Please review all of the information provided. SSC plays within the Morris County Youth Soccer Association, (MCYSA) and equivalent organizations and is bound by their rules as well as New Jersey Youth Soccer, (NJYS) and all SSC Rules. Before you register to tryout it is important that both parents and players know what to expect from our tryout process and that you understand what SSC expects from a travel team member.
There is a $10 tryout fee that must be paid at the tryouts. This fee covers the cost for a numbered T-shirt, (used for evaluation and notification process) for each player and helps defray the cost of the paid evaluators who assist with the tryouts.
The commitment to a travel soccer team is much more than for a recreational team. It includes but is not limited to:
· Two-season commitment with games being played in the fall and the spring.
· 2 practices per week
· Games primarily Sunday afternoon /possible Saturdays or other "make-up" days
· Ten game schedule each season split between home and away games (some an hour away)
· Players are expected to attend all practices and games.
· Typically, teams enter one or two tournaments per year
· Additional monetary commitment: Hired Trainer, travel expenses for tournaments, winter training / facility fees
· Most teams schedule winter training, some tournaments
· Registration Fee $160, (Due upon accepting a position on a team.) Uniform approximately $90.
· Players are selected to the travel program based upon the tryout evaluations.( info about tryout process below)
Our travel team evaluation process has been developed to be as objective as possible, with the overall goal being to choose players who would be best suited to play soccer at this level. The philosophy of Travel Soccer is as follows: “To afford the opportunity for qualified players with a higher level of commitment to develop their soccer skills and play at a competitive level.”
· Every child U9-U14, including players on current travel teams must tryout for a team for next year (all teams are re-formed every year)
· Evaluations are done by qualified evaluators (paid or volunteer with no direct connection to the age bracket) assigned by the SSC Tryout Committee
· Players abilities and technical skills are rated in a format including: scrimmage play and / or drills
· Evaluators score prospective players throughout the tryout and will compare their scores and rate players to form teams according to our Club policies
There will be two sessions of Tryouts for each age bracket. If a player is unable to attend either session, please notify the Tryout Chairperson. Additional tryouts for an age bracket may be scheduled if deemed necessary. If a player is injured notify the Tryout Chairperson in advance so the evaluators know of the condition.
During tryouts, all parents are to remain outside the designated field area and are to refrain from speaking to any evaluator. To do so could have a negative impact on your child’s tryout.
· Player Notification will be posted on the website by tryout T-shirt number on 6/14/10.
· Teams must be registered with MCYSA by 7/1/10. Therefore if your child is offered a position on a SSC Travel Team, you must accept or decline the commitment by 6/18/2010. Positions cannot be held beyond 6/18/10 for players while they consider other teams or decide whether they will make the commitment to a SSC Travel Team. Tryout Chairperson and /or Coach contact information will also be posted with roster. There will be a link for a Commitment form for you to print and mail in with your registration fee of $160.

· Registration of players chosen for the 2010-2011 SSC Travel Teams will take place during late July and August. Your child’s coach will inform you as soon as the information and registration schedule becomes available. Players not registered during scheduled times will be assessed a $20 late fee (unless waived by the Travel Registrar) and may also not have their passes completed in time for the first game in September.
The SSC Board of Directors hopes that the tryout experience proves to be a positive one for both players and their parents. Please keep in mind that not all players that tryout out for travel soccer will make a team, but this should not discourage a child from continuing to work on their soccer skills and tryout again next year.
